Thank you for visiting my homepage and welcome to the 2014-2015 school year at Oakridge Middle School!

Wow! I find it hard to believe that we're already into the new year and into the second half of the school year! This school year is certainly rolling along. We recently held our annual Geography Bee to identify our top geography student here at OMS. Congratulations to Tyler Musk, our third place finisher, Savannah Maycroft, our first runner-up, and to Jaden Parker, who emerged as the 2014 Geography Bee Champion. It was an exciting finale as all ten finalists showed why they earned the right to compete in the final competition. Thank you to all the parents who attended and supported our students.

My 8th grade Social Studies students are now working on Unit 4 of our curriculum: "Expansion and Reform", which includes chapters 11-13 of the textbook. Students will be examining how many Americans in the early 1800's wanted to improve society, whether it was through ending alcohol abuse, ending slavery, or allowing more rights to women. They'll also be introduced to the concept of "Manifest Destiny", which American felt gave them the right to expand the United States from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans. This belief is what drove Americans to acquire more land throughout the 19th century, whether through treaty, purchase, or war with other nations.

Please refer to this page often throughout the school year, as I use it as a means to communicate to both parents and students about both important information and the topics and we'll be covering in my 8th grade Social Studies classes.

As always, please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
