7th Grade Physics in the Park
Every year Muskegon County’s Michigan Adventure Amusement Park opens its doors to Middle School students from all over the state of Michigan and allows them the opportunity to learn the Physics side of Roller coasters. The seventh grade students here at Oakridge Middle School will have the opportunity to take part in this fun-filled day of learning.
At the end of April all of Ms. Dutton’s 7th grade science classes will begin the instructional unit about Roller Coasters. They will study all aspects of how coasters work and the Physics involved. The students will be taught all the needed concepts to be able to succeed in the Physics in the Park Challenge Sheet. They will be able to calculate the speed of the coasters, the height of them, and the G-Force they exert on people. All instructions will be supplied by the teacher during class. The students will need to pay attention, ask questions, and study the activities done during the first 2 weeks of May. They will be given a qualifying test, and any student receiving a 70% or higher on the test will be welcome to participate in the Challenge at MI Adventure. The student will then be responsible for returning a Permission Slip and the park entrance fee before the trip.
